WB Official Meets Khorasan Governor General

MASHHAD, Khorasan Province -- Head of the Middle East and North Africa Regional Bureau of the World Bank, Joseph Saba and the World Bank's senior expert in environmental affairs and hazards, Alain Rothman, here on Saturday met and conferred with Iran's northeastern Khorasan Province Governor General Seyed Hassan Rasouli.

Rasouli during the meeting explained the projects underway by the Mashhad Municipality, singling out those of them in which the World Bank's cooperation is sought and welcome.

Among them, the Khorasan Province governor general referred to the near future launching of Mashhad's information technology (IT) network, the project for harmonizing urban affairs and services for the residents of Mashhad's peripheral regions, and the project aimed at channelizing flood and surface waters of the province.

Referring to the high potentials of Khorasan Province in various economic fields, and close ties between that province and Afghanistan, Rasouli said: "Following the establishment of a strong central government there, and restoration of peace and stability in Afghanistan, which are promoted and desired by Iran, Khorasan Province has found broader economic prospects." The Iranian authority, meanwhile, announced Iran's readiness to cooperate with the World Bank in the course of reconstruction of Afghanistan, particularly in implementation of the development and service rendering projects.

The head of the Middle East and North Africa Regional Bureau of the World Bank, Joseph Saba, too, appreciated the cooperation of the Khorasan Province authorities with the World Bank officials, expressing hope that after studying the report of a World Bank delegation on Mashhad municipality projects, the necessary arrangements would be made for close cooperation between the two sides, IRNA reported. According to the Public Relations Bureau of the Khorasan Governorate General, Saba also welcomed Iran's proposal for cooperation with the WB in the course of reconstruction of Afghanistan, evaluating Iran's mood in that respect "a constructive attitude towards the matter."
